Our children’s lessons pick up where early water comfort leaves off. Starting at the Capable stage, swimmers begin mastering essential safety and stroke skills, gaining the confidence to explore new challenges in the water. As they progress, swimmers in Bristol can advance to the Competitive stage, where technique, endurance, and lifelong confidence come together.

Beginner Swim Lessons

Beginner 1
Goal: Swimmers can comfortably blow bubbles with their face in the water in the horizontal “swimming” position with productive kicks with light support from the instructor.
Skills learned:
- Breath Control: Mouth Bubbles Fully Submerged
- Supported Front and Back Floats and Kicks
- Water Safety Focus: Breath Hold, Wall Walks

Beginner 2
Goal: Swimmers can jump in the pool, blow nose bubbles, turn around, and kick to the wall independently.
Skills learned:
- Breath Control: Nose Bubbles Nose Bubbles
- Independent Front and Back Float
- Water Safety Focus: Rollover Glide, Safety Bobs

Beginner 3
Goal: Swimmers can jump in, back float, spot the wall, rollover and swim to the wall independently.
Skills learned:
- Independent Front and Back Kicks
- Independent Freestyle and Backstroke
- Water Safety Focus: Safety Backstroke, Rollover Kicks

Beginner 4
Goal: Swimmers can self-rescue using freestyle and backstroke up to 20ft.
Skills learned:
- Freestyle with Side Breathing
- Backstroke with Proper Timing
- Water Safety Focus: Treading Water

Intermediate & Advanced Swim Lessons

Intermediate 1
Goal: Swimmers can swim 25 yards of Freestyle and Backstroke and can-do Breaststroke kick.
Skills learned:
- Underwater Streamline
- Refine Technique and Improve Endurance in Freestyle and Backstroke
- Water Safety Focus: Endurance, Freestyle without Goggles

Intermediate 2
Goal: Swimmers can swim 50 yards of Freestyle and Backstroke, full Breaststroke and dolphin kick.
Skills learned:
- Refine Technique and Improve Endurance in Freestyle and Backstroke
- Independent Breaststroke
- Introduction to Butterfly, Open Turns and Flip Turns
- Water Safety Focus: Endurance, Advanced Treading Water

Intermediate 3
Goal: Swimmers can legally swim all four competitive strokes and perform open and closed turns.

- Advanced Technique for Freestyle Backstroke & Breaststroke
- Independent Butterfly
- Open and Flip Turns
- Water Safety Focus: Endurance

Advanced 1 & 2
Goal: Swimmers will enhance their stroke technique to improve efficiency and become stronger, safer swimmers.
